What do you believe in?

Over the past year, I have begun to dive into a little astrology. Learning my birth chart and how planets effect my houses as been…INSANE and accurate, sometimes a little scary. I’m fortunate enough to have a wonderful friend who has been studying it for years. With my permission, she has jumped into my chart and is now what I affectionately call, ‘My astrological therapist!’

Recently, I am gaining a little more attention from the public with my creation of an oracle deck and the upcoming tarot deck. After the last call with my friend, she let me know that now was the time to really think about how I want the world to see me. She said, “Once you’re in the public eye-it’s really difficult to change it.” My response was to say that as long as I was being authentic and trying to speak with my heart and not my ego, I should be alright. We all know how hard that can be at times. So, this morning I thought about this piece of writing…what do I truly believe in?

The world has been-well, I don’t even need to say it, we all know. I know many people who have begun to question their own habits, thoughts and even faith at times. All of us searching for our place in this world but hopefully more than not, are searching for how we best make this a better place. We have to start somewhere-if not for us, then for the generations yet to come.

Humanity and HOPE.

So where do we begin this contemplation of epic proportion?! When I made a voice memo of these thoughts earlier, my mind first wandered to people. Humans and humanity, those of us who are here with boots on the ground and trying our best to thrive through these times. I believe in the good in people. I believe that we all have scars and traumas and social conditioning from our communities and childhoods. Our journeys through the mess are not equal, but I believe that we all want better for ourselves and are capable of pushing through those barriers that have defined who we are. I believe truth and love and freedom are what we will find on the other side. I believe it is hard work. I know, from experience that the work doesn’t really stop, it just changes as we do. Most importantly I believe that we need to help each other through this, create community and change the conversations centered around our hurt. We can not get through this alone, there’s a reason there are so many of us and we are so different-we must help each other up and offer hope through our own experience and stories. This is how we share our humanity with others in a way that lets them see everything can be worked out, everything just might be okay.

I believe that the people that reside on this planet make up the greatest piece of art there ever will be. The lines on our smiling faces that come with wisdom and age. The color variations of our skin and hair and eyes are beautiful. The traditions and heritage from our ancestors, even all the different religions around the world-what an incredible opportunity to discover and fall in love with something other than what you have known or have been told.

I believe in love. I think it’s the only thing that truly makes us human. Even those who live life out of fear and therefore know nothing else but to spread judgement and anger in the name of their beliefs, are bound to be faced with a moment to choose love over the hatred they have been hiding under. I believe more will choose love and be rewarded with the gift of an open mind and kind heart.

I believe in kindness. I believe that when I let go of my own disappointment and frustration in others not being, saying or doing what I expect them to do and focus on simply responding in kindness or choosing silence out of kindness (because I can get cranky real quick!), I am changed. I am better. I am love.

I believe that as a soul and a spirit driving the truck of these bodies here on earth, we have the RIGHT to be who we are. (Side bar-I don’t think we have the right to hurt others and unfortunately there are many in this world who’s identity is cemented in this sickness) We have a right to choose how we dress, where we work, who we love, how we identify, who our friends are, what we eat and how we LIVE.

I believe in equality. I don’t think it matters where you come from, who you love, the color of your skin or your gender. We all have a beating heart that keeps us here and they all look relatively the same inside. Strength, intelligence, passion and courage are accessible to each and every one of us because it comes from WITHIN. What we choose to do with it makes us who we are and NOBODY has the right to say that your levels aren’t good enough or are unworthy of our dreams and pursuits. Nobody has the right to take our right to LIVE away. And to add a less comfy-cozy statement, I believe in justice. I know it isn’t always timely or perfect, but I believe justice will prevail. And I believe very much in karma! :)

Life is a gift and we may or may not understand how or why we get it, but it’s ours and we are here. I believe in a higher power that is somewhere and everywhere at the same time, cheering us on but also loving us in a way that feels sucky at times. Lessons will keep coming and we are here to get through these levels of learning so that when our time is done (however many lifetimes it takes) we leave this world better than we found it-even if we don’t realize our impact.

I believe in love and kindness, diversity and community, faith and hope, equality and justice.

All of it.

And these are things that I will continue to spread, these are the things that are worth fighting for and as I discover all of the different ways that I can do just that, I offer myself to the world.

Authentic and real with the full disclosure of one very important piece of me…I am still learning.

So now I ask you, what do YOU believe in?

Peace, Love and Gratitude,

Nya
